It’s hard to believe but another school year is ending!

As an eighth grader, Avery was the big man on campus this year. She ran her third and final cross country season in the fall. She’s already decided not to pursue cross country in high school. She thinks the race and practice distances are too far! Avery also continued reading announcements on CGTV about once every three weeks. She again was a member of the yearbook staff, completing several layouts in her ’90s-themed yearbook. Her yearbook brought back my own memories of middle school yearbook staff! She also was the secretary for the National Junior Honor Society. Next year brings the monumental change of moving to the high school. I know she’s ready, but we’re all a little nervous. It will be quite the transition. One positive note is that she’s already been accepted to participate in Student Government. That will be a great way to make new friends and ease into the life of a high school student. We had high hopes that Avery would be able to participate in the Early College program at the high school for the next four years. Unfortunately she was wait listed, which means that she won’t get into the program that we thought was best for her. We really thought this was where God wanted her to be. But apparently He has something even more wonderful planned for her because He made it quite clear that she isn’t supposed to be in Early College! We can’t wait to see what the next four years bring for our girl.

Damon had the honor of participating in the Extended Learning class for third grade which is a class for higher level students. We knew it was the right choice for him, and that was confirmed with the way he excelled this year. Great report cards, incredible test scores, and several fun projects were the highlight for this year. I will miss Mrs. Luck the most. She was an incredible teacher and really helped Damon learn and grow in ways we never thought possible. For three years he enjoyed having classes with a lot of good friends. The thing he was most concerned about this year was losing his friends since he only knew one or two people in his EL class before school started. But since Damon is such a friendly and kind kid, he made a lot of new friends in class this year. And hopefully many of them will be in his EL class next year. I’m so glad that God blessed us with a calm and easy-going boy with a strong mind and an even stronger heart!

Now, bring on summer! It will be filled with baseball, camps, 4-H, and lots of family time!
