It’s suddenly the last day of school! What an incredible year it has been for both Avery and Damon. They both grew tremendously academically and socially. And we inched a little closer to 100 percent normal schooldays.

Being part of the middle grade in her school meant Avery already knew the ins and outs but was still able to take part in both old and new activities. She continued cross country in the fall. She tried out for the crew in the drama club but unfortunately didn’t make the cut. And she participated on the yearbook staff. She was very proud to bring home her yearbook and show us her work! She continues to excel in her classes. She even tackled a frog dissection in science class! Well, she was the notetaker for her group because she was too freaked out to do anything else, but that counts for something! Next year brings the final year of middle school for our firstborn.

I blinked and my baby finished second grade! Damon was at the top of his class in several subjects. This kid is too smart for his own good! He loves reading and math, and it doesn’t take much to get him to do his homework each night. He enjoyed sharing a class with a lot of good friends this year which translated into lots of good times, including his first-ever field trip. We loved having Mrs. Hines for a teacher (for the second time!), and we so appreciate everything she did to help Damon grow and learn.

I can’t wait to see what next year brings for both of these incredible kids. But first, it’s a fun-filled summer break!
