While demo day is fun (and noisy!), it also kind of makes you question why you decided to start a major project in the first place. But the result of demo day is an empty shell with lots of possibilities! So here’s our empty shell:
Here is where the shower used to be. The tile ceiling will be coming out after that insulation is moved up into the attic. Apparently the showerhead and faucet were on the south wall before they were moved to the north wall. So the contractor will need to do something with those pipes. The new shower will go in this same place and will be larger than the original.
Our sink and vanity were here. That white thing behind the wall is the shower/tub in the kids’ bathroom. The toilet will go here, placed a little offset to the right.
There’s the pocket door between the future shower room and future sink room. We love the pocket doors in our house, so we definitely wanted to keep this one. And it will be nice to separate the shower area from the sink area so I can be at the sink while Chris is in the shower, a luxury we couldn’t enjoy in the old bathroom.
This is the former home of the extra cabinets and countertop just outside the bathroom. Perhaps the previous owners used this space as a desk or work area. For us, it just became a useless catch-all space. Our new vanity and double sinks (whoo-hoo!) will go here.
No more ugly blue carpet! The floor in both areas will have the same type of gray stone tile, but the patterns will be slightly different. Our closet will remain on the left side, and we’ll replace the carpet in there.
Since we’re moving the toilet, there will be some plumbing work in here, but our contractor assured us it’s no problem. At least we hope so!
It’s hard to believe the transformation that our one-man crew accomplished in just about an eight-hour day!
