After years of saving, months of planning, and weeks of shopping, we’re ready to begin some major spring house projects. Here’s a rundown of what’s happening. We’ll share pictures throughout the process!
Front door – First up is a new front door. We loved our front door from the moment we first toured the house when it went on the market. But after many years, the door has started to warp and crack, causing problems with the deadbolt and preventing the door from closing securely. It’s definitely time for a new door! Our contractor is installing the new door as I type. This is the easiest project of the three on our list, says the person not using the crowbar to take out the old door!
Living room – After living, working, and playing at home every day for the past 13 months, we finally grew tired of our living room. It was the first room we painted and carpeted after we moved in, so after more than 13 years it’s in need of a refresh. We plan to remove the wood paneling, spindles, and half wall; paint the new drywall; install new carpet; move the TV to above the fireplace; install can lights; and buy new furniture. We expected to wait a few months for new furniture. But one local store told us not to expect delivery before Halloween!
Master suite – We haven’t made all of our decisions on the living room yet. So the second project will be renovating the master suite. We haven’t touched this room since we bought the house, except for a sloppy paint job in the bathroom because we were tired of looking at the sponge paint on the walls! The existing bathroom will have only a shower and toilet. Then we will install a double vanity in the area outside of the existing bathroom and close that off with a pocket door. Then the bedroom will get new paint, new carpet, and new furniture. As you can guess, this will be the most intensive project. Plus it will mean that all four of us will share the kids’ bathroom for several weeks! We’ve already purchased nearly all of the necessary equipment for the new bathroom, so hopefully this project will start soon. It was fun to share our other bathroom remodeling project ten years ago, so we’ll do the same this time.
Hi mommy! I didn’t know you added this! I just saw today.
