Nearly two weeks later and I finally have time to give a recap on Avery’s short soccer clinic!
During the second session, the kids learned a little about defense. Coach Mandy called two kids to the middle of the field and told them to kick the ball into the goal. Then she explained that the person who didn’t have the ball was supposed to take it away and score. This concept didn’t catch on quickly!
It’s quite amazing to see the difference between Avery’s first week and last week. She really improved all of her soccer skills, including her stretches and jumping jacks.
She is very good at dribbling the ball. And she loves to play defense, trying to take the ball away from everyone else. Look at how well she can control the ball!
At the final session, Coach Mandy tried to have a real soccer game. She handed out pennys to half of the kids. The other half was upset that they couldn’t wear the neat yellow jerseys. Just before the game, the green team was protesting and crying about the situation. Everyone except Avery. She stood over the ball, ready to play. I was so proud that she jumped right in and played her heart out. She kind of surprised me!
We were surprised to learn that everyone receives a medal on the last day. We figured she’d just get a boring paper certificate. Avery patiently waited for Coach Mandy to present the medal.
Avery loved learning soccer from Coach Mandy. She was a great teacher. She leads other sports clinics, too. In fact, she was recruiting Avery for a basketball clinic. You know Daddy and Avery are both on board with that!
What better way to celebrate the end of soccer (on a very hot day) than to enjoy a cold Frosty.
Daddy taught Avery how delicious it is to dip French fries in the Frosty.
We had a very successful foray into the world of kids’ sports. I can assure you that this won’t be Avery’s last attempt at playing sports!
Don't forget about violin lessons, too!
