After living in this home for nearly four years, we’ve checked off several “to do” items on our home improvement list. All that’s left now are a few major (read: expensive and time consuming) projects.
The project we’ve decided to take on this summer is remodeling Avery’s bathroom, which is also the guest bathroom. I should rephrase that…we’re not lifting a finger for this project except to sign the check! We’ve hired a contractor to handle the entire thing from start to finish. If we did this ourselves, we might save some money in the long run. But it would take at least six months until the whole project is completed! So we thought it was best to hire a professional to do what he does best.
The contractor will start work on Thursday morning. So in case I want to remember this ugly bathroom in the future, here are the before pictures.
We’re going to replace everything in this room, even the drywall. We’ll replace the linen cabinet (with the door that won’t stay closed) and vanity with a dark-stained vanity to coordinate with the other woodwork. The sink and counter top will be replaced with a grayish-brown speckled counter top. The counter top will run the whole length of this wall, and the sink will be centered along the wall.
The bulkhead and lights above the sink will be removed. We’ll replace the gigantic mirror with a mirrored medicine cabinet. And we’ll add lights above the medicine cabinet.
The wallpaper will come off (yeah!), and the walls will be painted a steel-gray color.
The fixtures will be a brushed nickel finish. Bye, bye, 1980s vanity and sink!
The shower and tub will be replaced with a white fiberglass unit. The shower walls will feature a faux tile design.
The bulkhead above the shower also will be removed. Then the fiberglass unit will go all the way to the ceiling. Removing these awful 1975 “decorative” bulkheads will really make the bathroom feel and look larger. We don’t think there’s anything behind the bulkheads, like air ducts or electrical materials. So we hope we don’t run into any major problems!
Avery has requested “puhple” towels in her new bathroom. So we’ll get a purple shower curtain and rugs to match.
The brown tiles will be replaced by some type of flooring. We haven’t decided on this yet.
The white toilet will be replaced with a new white toilet. The pink musical princess potty chair will remain in this bathroom for awhile.
